Steven Gehrke is the winner of the 2002 Philip Levine Prize in Poetry selected by Philip Levine for his manuscript, The Pyramids of Malpighi. He received a BS in English from Minnesota State University, Mankato and an MFA from the University of Texas, where he was a James Michener Fellow. Currently, he is a PhD candidate at the University of Missouri. His first book of poems, The Resurrection Machine, was selected by Miller Williams as winner of the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry and published by BkMk Press in 2000. His poems have been anthologized in American Poetry: The Next Generation (Carnegie Mellon Press) and have appeared, most recently, in Indiana ReviewMississippi Review, and The Georgia Review.
